Etymology: Alexandrian word; cf. κύπελλα. Against connection with κῡφός (e.g. Bq) rightly WP. 1, 375. The meaning `clouds' Persson Beitr. 1, 195 tries to explain by reference to Lat. cava nubes, umbra. - The variation π \/ φ points to a Pre-Greek word.
